COPENHAGEN, DENMARK 31ST MAY 2023, after 43 years of working in the shipping industry, one of Hafnia’s founding partners Anders Engholm is set to retire as of June 1st, 2023.
Anders Engholm together with, Torben Bager, Peter Sebber Larsen, and Søren Steenberg founded the pool company Hafnia Management in 2010 after having spent the past 12 years of his career at TORM, Denmark.
During his tenure at Hafnia, Anders has contributed significantly to the launch of the MR and LR1 Pool (the latter turning into Straits Tankers in partnership with MOL, Japan) in 2011, formed under Hafnia Management and the establishment of Hafnia Tankers in Copenhagen in 2013 following a 3-way merger with Blackstone / Tufton and Tankers Inc founded by Mikael Skov, Jan Mechlenburg and Thomas Andersen.
Anders has also played a pivotal role in the launch of the Hafnia Handy pool in 2014, the merger between BW Tankers and Hafnia Tankers in 2019 (to form the Hafnia we know today) – and the establishment of the Specialized Pool in 2020.
Since 2020, Anders has been a key member of the Pool Management team, helping to drive Hafnia Pools as one of the largest and leading fleets in product and chemical tankers.
On retiring from Hafnia, Anders expressed his reflections on the tanker market and the Hafnia exponential growth Hafnia has experienced in only 13 years. “Working with wonderful Hafnia colleagues, partners, customers, and brokers over the years has been the single most important factor for me. I feel proud for having started and leaving my mark in a true “people-first” organization.”
Anders departs from Hafnia expressing both sadness after over 43 years in maritime, with deep excitement on his retirement adventure, where he hopes to stay in touch with the Maritime industry and is also set to welcome a new family member – Anton – an Irish Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier puppy.
Hafnia CEO Mikael Skov thanks Anders Engholm on behalf of Hafnia for his years of dedication, commitment, and most importantly friendship and mentorship with his colleagues at Hafnia– which has been “both immeasurable and invaluable over the years. Farewell events with both Hafnia colleagues and external guests have been held in both Singapore and Copenhagen during May 2023.
